Thanks R - They are donkeys - except for me that is. "Once the main source of transport and farm power for the velley, Amiata donkeys are now protected by a special program to maintain the species, of which there are only 200 left. Cosimo and Concerto are particularly fortunate because Alvina and Umberto had them microchipped and built a lovely warm donkey house for them, a fact that amused and astonished local farmers who think the stranieri (strangers) from Australia are very odd indeed - A house for the donkeys!
