How to tie your scarf ....... or make it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LYAEz777AU&feature=player_embedded#at=25...
A great site but wait................

Isadona
"I dance what I am!"
The impetus for this particular blog, is the above link to a great video on '25 Ways to tie a scarf'  so it's time to revisit Isadora.

"Who was Isadora?" some may ask.
She was renowned for being a dancer who was usually adorned with a long scarf (like me) -  her early death was the result of an unfortunate accident involving her scarf and her neck.  Personally I admire her for her amazing spirit, and as with other feminist women, she blazed our trail. "What trail?" our daughters may ask. Another day, another blog, but believe me, "Baby, we've come a long way."

I would love to showcase  my special Isadora, who, as well as being a dancer, has made many many ????? scarves for a great cause.  "I've decided to finish out my year of blogging by knitting as many of these scarves as possible by February 9th, 2011 and donating them to area shelters. You can join me if you like. For more information go to http://www.shopatnextdoor.com/bluedotspecial.html "

Well done R.

Dreaming of Dior

Hi R
A 'Dior' reply from my friend Veronica, who reminds me of you and is a kindred spirit.  She has a interior style business in Mosman and her last blog is also about inspiration.
http://stantoninteriorstyle.blogspot.com/    Here is an extract from her blog.
Back to winter now - I've just been to Orange, New South Wales where the cold and wind were biting (lots of layers kept us warm!).  In the little heritage town of Millthorpe near Orange a colourfully decorated chair and cushions by a sunny window immediately made me feel toasty, and brought to mind autumn leaves in the following photo taken in autumn in Bowral, NSW.

Veronica:-
"I love the Dior fashions, past and present. Did you know that an Australian woman (Charlotte Smith) has written a book about inheriting a wonderful collection of beautiful clothes from other eras from her godmother. It's called Dreaming of Dior and should still be in the bookshops.

My first cousin, Hamish Bowles, works for Vogue USA and has a museum collection of dresses from glamorous women.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

Thanks Veronica - I love the way Hamish has expressed the creative spirit so concisely.

Singing gladdens the heart - especially the harmony of acappella

Dear Babyboomers
I responded to an invitation from a friend, "Some of our Northern Beaches Chorus group will be singing at the Mosman Art Gallery, come along.
So pleased that I went along - singing gladdens the heart. Many happy childhood memories are of being around the piano with Mum playing, and Dad singing at the top of his voice, head back, loving the moment. 'Mona Lisa was his favourite and he sang it every time, with gusto. Every now and then we would break into some harmony of sorts, which brings me back now to the Northern Beaches Chorus.

I looked up the website http://www.northernbeacheschorus.com.au/ to find out more.

Northern Beaches Chorus is a Sydney women's choir which sings 4-part acappella harmony, has approx 80 members, regularly performs on stage, and appears in local events and national competition. '
"We love to share our joy of singing with women of all ages and backgrounds in our local community and the chorus provides a whatsource of education in vocal production and showmanship" ........

And this is what shone through - sheer enjoyment of their moment which I was able to share via the body language and harmony. Have a look at the video to see what I mean.

Thanks lovely ladies.

Renotta's year of creative miracles is almost complete

Hi there

Clara at the coal face
R wrote -  'I started this project blog on February 9, 2010 with the goal of designing a piece everyday using fiber, photography, metal and beads as my media.'
With less than 2 weeks to go of her personal challenge, she says, 'It's been an interesting journey  - what's nice is the 365 days will be in cyberspace forever. A lot of great stuff came out of all this social networking including reconnecting with you. I'm enjoying my
Project knitway alot, tying it into my website; the shelter scarves, facebook etc.  What I will enjoy when it is over is to work at it at my leisure and dedicate more time to each piece.'

Not just a pretty face

I have been busy keeping up, let alone actually creating these beautiful pieces.  As you know I had the pleasure of visiting Renotta and lovely Roberto, reconnecting after 30 years and living her life for 3 weeks.  Needless to say we had a ball, and I was able to see how it was done - sheer hard work using skills and talent developed over a lifetime, but most of all the absolute love of the creative process.  I feel very privileged to have been part of her project  - and yes for me too great things came from it - as is the way with communication and creativity annnnd ....technology.(another blog)

I have put together a random selection of pieces into a video where I had to edit heavily  - a year is a long time!   Renotta's One-a-Day - this is the link to see all the works.

It's all about identity - Well done Ruth Faerber!

Ruth reinvented herself as an artist
in her 80's to employ new technology
such as inkjet printers
Hi R and other inspiring women
From our local paper, The Mosman Daily - 'Portrait of lady as reborn artist'  written by Kate Crawford.

Thanks Kate, for your inspiring article on Ruth Faerber - she's 88 and has no intention of retiring and giving up her identity as an artist. She is exhibiting her work at Artarmon Galleries alongside works on paper by late artist John Coburn.  She says, "I find it oddly engaging that the passage of time is represented  by the generation links in the show."

The exhibition features Faerber's recent digital prints - she reinvented herself as an artist about six years ago to employ new techniques such as inkjet printers.  "I discovered amazing things that could not be done in other ways - the result is not a photograph  but a graphic." she says.

The exhibition continues until next Tuesday, November 9, at Artarmon Galleries at 479 Pacific Highway, Artarmon.  I can feel a 'walk with a purpose' looming on Sunday.
Clara
ps - Hope we can be written up in the local paper when we are 88. Inkjet/photoshop/etc  Grannies?
Well done Ruth!

Carpe diem - Bright Bright Sunshiny Day

Hi R
The result is very beautiful.  The process is even more special as it expresses a sheer love of creativity.  Sometimes the quality of a moment is so amazing, you need to capture it. Translucent, ethereal.......Carpe diem - Interpreted in Latin as 'seize the day', or sometimes as 'enjoy the day, pluck the day when it is ripe'.   Clara

A Bright, Bright Sunshiny Day...August 15th

I snapped this monarch butterfly resting on thistle in my garden. I printed it on fabric, "framed" it with sheer muslin and suspended it in an old frame from my mother. This way the light can filter through it. I think it will be lovely propped in a window in the midst of winter. Thanks to Lucy and Karen for the seeds of an idea and Clara for the title.
