I love being a nonna

Hi R
Wishing you and Roberto a happy Easter.  We are going south to South Australia for a week to spend time with family on the 'Limestone Coast" - at the family holiday house.   Very simple and basic - bunk style accommodation which I love.  Right on the coast so it's windy and if you are a little plant you need to be sturdy.

Easter lunch at the Rowers is to be viewed below - I love being a nonna.

Look at me, Nonna!! From the warm fuzzy distance of grandparenting

Nonna tip - don't get the age wrong as I did once
but never   ever again!
Hi R and other grannies out there
It's wonderfully fulfilling to watch grandchildren develop - to witness the ages and stages, be able to give out treats generously, to have fun etc -  from the warm fuzzy distance of grandparenting.

A big weekend sleepover which felt like Christmas where one's attention is scattered in many directions and the house is full of stuff.

Now it's quiet and orderly - we return to normality with lovely memories of spontaneous hugs, Poppy makeovers and tricky questions.

ps - Poppy's snoring was also recorded - something I have always threatened to do  but have never quite been courageous enough.

Refreshing the Christmas spirit with friends and family

R wrote - "Baby AJ is so precious.  He's really reacting with us and we just sit around and admire him and laugh together over our good fortune.  Christmas will be fun."

Clara - Yes, it will  - new life, fresh and joyous, reflects the Christmas spirit.

Toys waiting to be wrapped

As does spending time with generous minded, joyful family and friends.  One particular friend is just that, and her home was in wonderful chaos as she prepared for the big event.  The dining table was ladened with items to include in hampers for elderly relatives and one for the local shopping centre charity.  Toys filled the spare room, with the bed strewn with lovingly chosen gifts for her grandchildren, whilst the lounge  was home for presents for adults.

It was good to be part of this amazing activity and preparation but the best part was to witness her enjoyment in the process.  And of course, as so often is the case, S runs her own business so has very little spare time.

Happy Christmas to all the wonderful people behind the scenes who renew our hope and refresh our optimism.
Love Clara

Mrs Claus no doubt works hard behind the scenes

Santa will no doubt visit here

The world welcomes OJ - It's a Boy!

It's a Moet kind of day!
 Hi there
Welcome to Baby OJ,  born today, a little early and very hungry.  I have to wait until Sunday to meet him but I already know he is very very special.

Mother and Baby are doing well - the best words in the world to hear when you are waiting for that phone call.

One can't help but be reflective when your daughter gives birth - I hope OJ brings her and J much joy.
Clara

On becoming a granny

Anthony Janis Foss...August 5th

Baby Anthony arrived today at 4:18 am. He weighed in at 7lb 4oz and 18 inches long. Everyone is doing great and he loves his pillows!

Tony is sooooooooooo beautiful!

The Miracle - "A single living cell in the mother's womb gives rise to a human being with all his/her complex systems after a nine-month adventure."

And to the grandparents a few platitudes which suddenly become true.

Grandchildren are the dots that connect the lines from generation to generation. ~Lois Wyse

When a child is born, so are grandmothers. ~Judith Levy

Never have children, only grandchildren. ~Gore Videl

Becoming a grandmother is wonderful. One moment you're just a mother. The next you are all-wise and prehistoric. ~Pam Brown

Being grandparents sufficiently removes us from the responsibilities so that we can be friends. ~Allan Frome

When grandparents enter the door, discipline flies out the window. ~Ogden Nash

Grandfathers are for loving and fixing things. ~Author Unknown

Everyone needs to have access both to grandparents and grandchildren in order to be a full human being. ~Margaret Mead

A grandma's name is little less in love than is the doting title of a mother. ~William Shakespeare

The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap. ~Author Unknown

It's amazing how grandparents seem so young once you become one. ~Author Unknown

Soon I will be an old, white-haired lady, into whose lap someone places a baby, saying, "Smile, Grandma!" - I, who myself so recently was photographed on my grandmother's lap. ~Liv Ullmann

A child needs a grandparent, anybody's grandparent, to grow a little more securely into an unfamiliar world. ~Charles and Ann Morse

I particularly like the last quote since it means that even if you don't have grandchildren of your own, there are children near you who need a grandparent.
