TOMTOM - so where do you want to go, Clara?

I dedicate this blog to my mates, LWL (ladies who lunch) who started at the same school as FIRST-TIME teachers.  Lovely catch up - great communication.  And the reason I purchased my TOMTOM.  All will be revealed..............
LWL - Circa   mid to late 60's- teachers

It arrived today - my first non book purchase on-line

You are going to help me find my way!

Hi R
Well........ thanks for your somewhat emotional response to my technical question re what is so good about your ipad?  ie "I'm in love with my ipad. It makes me happy just to think about it."

I haven't made any decisions yet re an I Pad or Android but I did make another important purchase.  And here it is.......  A TOMTOM!  Love the name - makes me feel as though it's going to communicate to me how to get where I want to go.

So where do you want to go, Clara?

The answer is. "To where I decide to go."  Therein lie choices, not only re destination, but how I want to get there.

OK,  so here's the history - Ladies who Lunch - LWL - destination was via a route I chose not to take.  I don't do expressways anymore  ever since the unfortunate journey via the airport from Artarmon to an address in Artarmon.  Well - I got into the wrong lane - then was afraid to go sideways fearing that I would be lost forever.

So, everyone else was still driving out of their comfort zone,  except me - which was confronting and cost a lot.
After counselling from the group, when I saw a special deal on the net re TOMTOM, I decided to go for it.

When I told G about it, he said I really didn't need it, because I didn't drive anywhere out of the area.  So I said, "The less I drive, the more fearful I become."  He understood and is supportive  - we had a lesson even, where I drove to IKEA land via GPS and felt good about it.  He agreed to shut up re my other driving habits - Yeaaah!

So - TOMTOM has arrived and I need to read the manual. Hmmmmmm

Singing gladdens the heart - especially the harmony of acappella

Dear Babyboomers
I responded to an invitation from a friend, "Some of our Northern Beaches Chorus group will be singing at the Mosman Art Gallery, come along.
So pleased that I went along - singing gladdens the heart. Many happy childhood memories are of being around the piano with Mum playing, and Dad singing at the top of his voice, head back, loving the moment. 'Mona Lisa was his favourite and he sang it every time, with gusto. Every now and then we would break into some harmony of sorts, which brings me back now to the Northern Beaches Chorus.

I looked up the website http://www.northernbeacheschorus.com.au/ to find out more.

Northern Beaches Chorus is a Sydney women's choir which sings 4-part acappella harmony, has approx 80 members, regularly performs on stage, and appears in local events and national competition. '
"We love to share our joy of singing with women of all ages and backgrounds in our local community and the chorus provides a whatsource of education in vocal production and showmanship" ........

And this is what shone through - sheer enjoyment of their moment which I was able to share via the body language and harmony. Have a look at the video to see what I mean.

Thanks lovely ladies.

Hang on there - the year is almost up

R wrote -

I started this project blog on February 9,  2010 with the goal of designing a piece everyday using fiber, photography, metal and beads as my media. It's been an interesting journey. I hope you enjoy!

23 days left to complete a year of creating a piece each day

Hi there to other creative minded friends
R wrote -http://shopatnextdoor.blogspot.com " I only have 23 days left on Project A Day! I've knit over 150 scarves so far and have at least another 50 to go just to use up the yarn that customers brought in.  I've taught Ula how to knit them and created a knitting monster. She loves it. June is also helping me, so now I mostly just sew them together. It's turning into a really great community project. Wish you were here...you are my missing link.

Clara - thanks R.  It's been a year (what was the exact date?) since we reconnected through Facebook and you have enhanced and enriched my life in many ways, including a fabulous trip thanks to wonderful Roberto, where we caught up after 30 years to continue just where we left off.

It has been a delight to be part of your Project One a Day, to witness your amazing creativity and drive, combined with community spirit.  What a great way to end your amazing year of creativity; ie cosy, stylish scarves brightening and warming so many lives.  Very very very proud of you!!!

I've been away on holidays and cannot believe how much has been achieved with this community effort - to such an extent that you have been able to create additional  pieces to complete your amazing  'year of living creatively.'

101...January 6th
100 scarves have been delivered to area shelters as of today. We have at least another 100 to go, thanks to everyone who brought in yarn.

13 more scarves!

We delivered another 28 scarves today!

Creative scarves bring cosy warmth to Wisconsin

Getting ready for the photoshoot
 Hi there
An amazing creative day in Wisconsin which took me back 30 years, as R and I worked side by side in her studio.  Well, she did amazing things whilst I absorbed the ambiance of a wonderfully creative environment.

We have kept tabs on each other's work via email and blogging, so it was great to connect the dots and actually be there at the creative coal front.

As you know, Renotta has pledged to photograph something she creates every day for a year so here I am witnessing this actually happening.

What I have learnt is that there are not more hours in the Northern Hemisphere but that I could get up earlier. Damn!

Creatively

Half way point reached in Renotta's creative challenge

Welcome to my journey as I photograph something I create everyday for a year... RRT

R wrote - So just in case anyone is counting, today was my half way point. Hopefully it's all down hill from here. Stay tuned.
Clara - I am!!!  Congratulations on a super human effort!  And you still had time to tend 'Shop at Next Door', as well as becoming a granny (emotional effort).  As I have said before, it is fortunate that there are more hours in a day in the Northern Hemisphere.
The albino buck pillow is awesome, and it is great to see a fall inspired mobius scarf but my favourite is the runner with the images of your favourite textile pieces.  I appreciate the number of creative processes involved, integrating the old with the new.  I guess that's what Fit in Your Jeans (Grannycircle) is about.
ps - which name do you like best - would love to hear your thoughts.

Table It...August 8th

I needed a change of pace, so I decided to do this table runner. I hand dyed a piece of muslin and appliqued fabric photo images of some of my favorite textile pieces from my collection. I like the mix of cultures.

The Buck Stopped Here...August 7th

This awesome albino buck roamed our northwoods for years. I was fortunate enough to take this photo of him last fall. This winter was his last with
